Memphis: A New Musical
has taken Broadway by storm! The winner of four Tony Awards including Best Musical, Memphis also recently received
top honors at the Outer Critics' Circle and Drama Desk Awards. One of the show's producers is an old friend, and
I was lucky enough to get a sneak peek and meet the show's stars when they visited my hometown of none other than Memphis.
The story is set in 1950's Memphis, when rock and roll found its roots in the soulful music of our legendary Beale Street. Bon Jovi's David Bryan and Broadway veteran
Joe DiPietro have brilliantly brought to life the story of radio DJ Huey Calhoun and singer Felicia Farrell. These characters
are superbly played by Chad Kimball and Montego Glover, and songs like the rousing "Memphis Lives in Me" punctuated
by Sergio Trujillo's masterful choreography have the audience on the edge of their seats. As one critic put it, Memphis:
A New Musical is "sensuous and soulful... the very essence of what a Broadway musical should be!"
I am pleased to be able to offer my clients premium seats at
this exciting new show, including discounts for groups. Now is the perfect time to visit the Big Apple, whether's it's
a family holiday, girls' shopping spree, or romantic getaway for two. Brownell Travel has special relationships with
many of the finest hotels in New York City, and here are some special rates at some of our favorites in a wide range of budgets
and locations.
The Plaza
The world-famous Plaza Hotel is back better than ever and once again sets the standard for luxury in New
York City! I recently treated myself to this old grande dame and was blown away by the spacious and beautiful
new accommodations which include 24 karat gold fixtures throughout the luxurious bathrooms. This hotel's address at
the intersection of Central Park South and Fifth Avenue makes it the ideal base from which to explore Manhattan, whether it
means shopping til you drop or overloading on Broadway shows! If you prefer to stay around the hotel, indulge in brunch
at the Oak Room or "see and be seen" at the new lobby champagne bar or Rose Club. Your personal butler is
there to attend to your every need 24/7.
Thanks to our affiliation with Virtuoso, this
fall I am able to pass on an exceptional offer to my clients when they stay at The Plaza. Our rate includes a possible
upgrade at time of check in, daily full breakfast, and a $100 food and beverage credit.

Gramercy Park Hotel
The
Gramercy Park Hotel is the latest luxury boutique hotel in New York from Ian Schrager. Convenient to SoHo
and the Village, the hotel is located on private Gramercy Park, steps from Union Square and slightly below the Midtown area.
The hotel features two bars (Rose Bar - where Paris Hilton was infamously kicked out - and Jade Bar) as well as a private
rooftop lounge, the Roof Club. Currently there is no restaurant but award-winning restaurateur Danny Meyer is scheduled to
open one there later this fall. This hotel is unique because it offers exclusive access to the city's only private park,
which is beautiful even in chilly months. The Gramercy Park Hotel (or GPH as it affectionately known in some circles)
is sure to be the face of the "new" boutique hotels with more spacious, livable accommodations and a bohemian
chic atmosphere accentuated by an art collection straight out of MOMA.
Thanks to our special relationship, we are able to offer our clients the following amenities at the Gramercy
Park Hotel: room upgrade based on availability at check in, daily continental breakfast, and one
lunch for two in the private Roof Club!

The Michelangelo Hotel
The recently renovated Michelangelo is an oasis of calm only steps from the bustle of the
Theatre District. Unlike so many other boutique hotels, the rooms here are particularly spacious, and it is said that
the 55 gallon soaking tubs found in their luxurious bathrooms are the city's deepest. One of my clients' favorites,
its Michelin starred restaurant Insieme offers both traditional and contemporary Italian cuisine, which is ideal for
a pre-theatre dinner. Owned by Europeans, The Michelangelo is one of the few remaining properties in Manhattan
to offer a complimentary continental breakfast which includes Italian pastries and coffee or cappuccino. This lovely
property is the perfect spot for serenity-seeking theatre lovers, and I am pleased to be able to offer a specially negotiated
rate to my clients.
